There are numerous ways you could get involved and that could simply by posting/responding to messages on our message board, signing our petition or raising awareness of male eating disorders and of our site in your local area to name but a few things.
We also have a range of volunteering oppotunities if you have a reasonable amount of time to give. For our general volunteer role this includes research and writing content for the site, creating artwork and assisting with website design. The sorts of activities you get involved in depends on your skills and interests. We are also looking for men to write their stories for the 'Personal Stories' section of the site.
In addition to the general volunteering role, we are advertising for three specific roles:
- Peer Support Group Facilitator - This opportunity involves facilitating a monthly peer support group for men who have been affected by eating disorders; the group currently meets on the first Wednesday evening of the month (7.30-9pm) in central Brighton; (Please note: due to the nature of the group being specfically for men the Peer Support Group Facilitators would also have to be male; however women are welcome to apply to the other volunteering oppotunities).
- Project Assistant - This opportunity involves supporting the project co-ordinator in a variety of ways including corresponding with members, existing and potential users of the website, and dealing with general enquiries mainly through email; publicity and PR; organising meetings and booking venues; putting together organisational policies and procedures; general administrative tasks (e.g. filing, photocopying, inputting data, etc); attending meetings when necessary.
- Trustees - This oppotunity invloves participating in approxiamtely six meetings per year (exact number of meetings and dates/times yet to be arranged) and an Annual General Meeting; managing and overseeing the work of the project, it's non-paid Project Leader and volunteer team; ensuring good governance, financial viability, strategic planning; shape the project so it can become a charitable organisation; attending meetings as a representative of the organisation; being involved in other aspects of the project.
Each volunteering oppotunity requires different skills sets, qualities and experiences. For specific lists please go to http://www.communitybase.org/volunteersearch/
Besides the general volunteer role, all other volunteers must live in the Brighton, Hove and Sussex area and/or be willing to travel.
If you are interested in volunteering please email Sam Thomas via the contact page for more info.
