Raising Awareness
There are lots of ways to raise awareness of eating disorders in men and the work of MGEDT. By doing so you will be helping to make a difference to society’s attitudes and beliefs about eating disorders and improve the lives of male sufferers.
Here are some suggestions on what you can do to help:
- Distribute our awareness raising posters and information leaflets in your local area – Posters and information leaflets can be sent out to anyone who wants them free of charge. Suggestions on where they can be displayed include schools and colleges, universities, libraries, doctors surgeries, community centres, leisure centres and gyms to name but a few. To order copies of our posters and information leaflets please contact us. Alternatively you can download and print from the downloads page.
- Hold an awareness raising event in your school, college or university - Throughout the year there are numerous themed weeks including Eating Disorders Week and Men’s Health Week, which are key opportunities for raising awareness by informing your fellow students about the issues. You could hold an awareness raising stall, talk about male eating disorders in a school assembly or maybe do a quiz for your class.
- Write a letter to your MP informing them about the issue of male eating disorders – If there is limited or non-existent provision for men with eating disorders in your area, tell your MP about it. We can provide some guidance and support for anyone who writes letters.
- Tweet about us or share the website link on Facebook – Social networking can go a long way to inform people about about eating disorders in men and direct them to MGEDT. All the links to our social networking pages can be found on the home page. Don’t forget to follow us and ‘like’ our fan page!
You can support MGEDT by making a one-off or regular donation via Charity Giving.
