Strip Theatre presents LEAN, a brave, bold and unashamedly frank insight into male anorexia and how it affects a married couple’s relationship. The production runs from Tuesday 29 January – Saturday 23 February 2013, 7.30pm at Tristan Bates Theatre. There are two Press nights on – Thursday 31 January & Friday 1 February at 7.30pm.
With hospital admissions for Anorexia and Bulimia among men rapidly increasing in the UK, LEAN could not be more timely and approaches the issues through a personal domestic story to create an accessible representation of the disease [for further Anorexia stats, see ‘Notes’, below].
The play is inspired by personal experience and tells the tale of Tessa, who arrives home unannounced to find her husband, Michael has stopped eating again. She makes a deal with him that she will move back in, but will only eat what he eats. However, Michael plays by his own rules, which culminates in a battle of wills and a tangle of mind games that will either save or destroy them.
Laura Hanna plays Tessa. Her past credits include Beasts And Beauties at Hampstead Theatre, Daisy Pulls It Off at Lyric, Hammersmith and Into The Woods at Oxford Playhouse. She also starred in Channel 4’s Driller Filler.
