MGEDT invites your input on peer support groups

MGEDT is inviting you to complete a short survey on your views and experiences of support groups for men living with eating disorders. It involves eight simple questions with options to elaborate with more details and will take no more than five minutes to complete. We are hoping your feedback will establish and illustrate a need and demand for targeted services nation-wide.

You may be aware that we are responsible for the Sussex Eating Disorders Eating Disorders Service (SEDS Peer 2 Peer) involving six groups at present. In addition, our London men’s peer support group is our flagship group with an aim to roll out similar groups nation-wide as part of our three to five year strategic plan.

Our groups offer:

•A safe and welcoming environment where those directly affected by eating disorders and those in a supporting role can share and discuss their experiences.
•Information and advice on eating disorders to enable better understanding of symptoms.
•Gateways to support including counselling, other therapies, support groups and treatment services.

Ideally we’d be looking to set up men’s eating disorders peer support groups across all regions in England and Wales. By the end of 2020 we plan to have set up five additional groups, alongside our existing groups running at present.

It would go a long way in helping us to develop the MGEDT Peer Support Group Network by completing the survey today by clicking here

Locality areas for new groups may include: Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Norwich, Cardiff and Bournemouth. Over time we may explore other areas around the country but only by completing the survey will tell us where there is a need and demand for groups.

Moreover, we are seeking volunteers to help us to make it all happen by supporting fundraising efforts to build up the peer support fund. No matter what you plan to do to raise funds we’d be interested in hearing from you – whether it running that marathon, jumping out of a plane or climbing a mountain or just doing something silly! If you are able to help with fundraising efforts please do contact us as we’d be happy to hear from you. Don’t forget Eating Disorders Awareness Week beginning the week on the 27th February so is a key opportunity to fundraise.

Any help and support in the development and support of the MGEDT Peer Support Group Network is most helpful and appreciated.
